Die Space Death Fusionists WOUNDED NOT DEAD aus London, landen am 10. Mai 2023 mit "The Alchemist" ihren fulminanten Zweitschlag.

WOUNDED NOT DEAD - The AlchemistTT: Euer Bandname WOUNDED NOT DEAD klingt allein für sich genommen schon ziemlich brutal. Was könnt ihr mir darüber sagen?

Also seit den frühen 90ern.

Schließlich sind seit eurem Debüt "The Battles of Horus of Edfu" und diesem Hickhack ganze sechs Jahre ins Land gezogen.

©WOUNDED NOT DEADTT: Worum geht es euch beim Konzept zu "The Alchemist"?

Adriano: Das Label L.A. Riot Survivor kontaktierte uns. Nachdem die Promo-Videos „The Obstacle Is The Way“ und „Register Of Embodiments“ vom „The Alchemist“-Album herauskamen, prüften wir die verfügbaren Optionen in einem langen Meeting innerhalb der Band.

TT: Ihr seid ja doch recht visionär unterwegs! Was ist geplant und was steht bereits fest?

- original english version -

The Space Death Fusionists WOUNDED NOT DEAD from London will land their brilliant second strike with "The Alchemist" on 10th of May 2023. An album that can be hardly surpassed in terms of brutality, intensity and playful class, which is my highlight for 2023 so far. Since the "music of the future" of the British avant-garde metallers is not yet known to every extreme metal fan in this country, I conducted an interview with the Brutal Technical Death Metal triumvirate to counteract the whole thing a little. Here you can read what Thiago Carvalho (Vocals, Guitars), Rimon Jaoude (Bass) and Adriano Ferraro (Drums) had to tell me...

WOUNDED NOT DEAD - The AlchemistTT: Your band name WOUNDED NOT DEAD sounds pretty brutal on its own. It came to your mind when you founded the band, and unfortunately it has a very real and personal connection to you. What can you tell me about it?

Thiago: I had a very bad car crash in 2012 in Brazil, and as a result I got a fractured back and a wound that needed 42 stitches around my arm, which stopped mm's from cutting the artery to the heart. I had a lucky escape. Once I formed a new band with Adriano, the first name that came to mind was Wounded Not Dead. We discussed, agreed on the name and the band Wounded Not Dead was born.

TT: There are certainly a lot of extreme metal fans out there who don't know you yet and should definitely change that. How would you explain your style to these people? What do you do, where are you from and what exactly is meant by "Space Death Fusion"?

Thiago: The idea behind Space Death Fusion is exactly that, once someone reads the band logo it has sort of an idea of our music style, of what to expect coming from the creators of the music perseptive. We are based in East London.

Space comes from our Progressive, Psychedelic, Stoner Rock and Metal music influences. Death from the Death Metal side. And Fusion, from the Jazz Fusion influences.

TT: Does it make you blush with pride when they call you pioneers of the new Metal subgenre "Space Death Fusion"? Which bands influenced your style the most and where does the staccato style of playing come from, which is a common thread running through your music?

Thiago: Wounded Not Dead is turning 10 years old in October next year, my previous London band Inner Rage, with me on guitar and vocals, began playing that style of staccato music over 23 years ago and over 4 years prior to that, where the band started in Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Wounded Not Dead have taken that style of music and pushed it and developed it further.  We as a band are proud of what we have created in terms of our music and the way we describe it on our logo and CD booklet thru the artwork.

My early music influences in the mid 80's and early 90's were Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Punk, Grindcore, Classic rock, Progressive Rock, Metal and Jazz Fusion.

Adriano: I have been listening to Metal, Punk and Hardcore since the early 90's at 11 years old. The metal scene in my home town in Italy was very small and we were a bunch of kids in a band making noise with cheap instruments, smoking, drinking and writing songs with silly names hahaha. That was the best fun ever.

TT: Tell me something about your second full-length. Why did it take you so long to release "The Alchemist"? The recordings should have been in the can since 2020!

Rimon: Yes, the album was getting ready for release in 2020, then the pandemic took hold and stopped our plan to release the album as we wouldn't have been able to play gigs to promote the album back then, so the label had to re-schedule the album release date.

TT: The whole procedure must have really annoyed you. After all, a full six years have passed since your debut "The Battles of Horus of Edfu" and all this hick hack.

Rimon: Yes, it was a terrible situation for everyone back then, the whole scenario, but finally "The Alchemist" will be out in May 2023.

©WOUNDED NOT DEADTT: What is the concept for "The Alchemist" all about for you?

Thiago: I have many concepts in the way I view "The Alchemist" album. Music to me is art and one could view and appreciate art in many different ways and music to me is like that.

One of the concepts in my view, in a way reflects how brief life is, and one's journey through it as time progresses, its relations, memories, movements, destiny and departure into a new realm, leaving the story to the reader's own conclusion.

TT: How did you and the Italian/British label L.A. Riot Survivor Records come together and how satisfied are you with their work so far?

Adriano: L.A. Riot Survivor Label contacted us and after the promo videos "The Obstacle Is The Way" and "Register Of Embodiments" from "The Alchemist" album came out, after a long meeting between the band, we considered the options that were available at the time and formed the partnership with them for the album. They are working now on promotion of "The Alchemist" album that is coming out in May and on booking live shows for the band in the near future.

TT: One reads again and again that you have already made firm plans for a European tour or festivals. Can you tell me something specific and will we also see you live in Germany?

Adriano: We hope to one day play in Germany, that would be amazing, promoters interested in booking the band please get in contact (Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist vor Spambots geschützt! Zur Anzeige muss JavaScript eingeschaltet sein!)!

TT: Are you already busy working on your third album or do you want to let the release of "The Alchemist" sink in and let it affect you and the fans first?

Rimon: At the moment, we are focused on "The Alchemist" album release and rehearsing for gigs. We will keep Totentanz Magazin posted on any future news.

TT: You are quite visionary! How do you think/hope will the future of WOUNDED NOT DEAD looks like? What is planned and what is already certain?

Adriano: The Wounded not dead machine never stops moving forward, that's for sure. We are always working hard behind the scenes because that's what we live for. To hit the road and promote the album is the plan. Hopefully we can share some information regarding live shows soon. We will keep you posted.
